Isnt it pretty reasonable to assume that this will really just be iPod related/iTunes movie store related because macrumors did not get an invite but iLounge did. ABC News is even talking about the news iPods and Movie store. This thread has really gone crazy with people talking about the airport express and such. It has been a year since the iPod nano has been updated so we can be CERTAIN that their will be new nanos.

It makes me so happy to know that there are still plenty of stupid people in the world.

    Thank you

LOL me too! What is so stupid about solving the problem with total success following my logic? Just because people are not going to follow my advice, does not mean that is somehow sophomoric.

The question is: Will they go after Microsoft, too? It would be hypocritical not to, after all.

IMHO, this is the primary motivation for the settlement from Apple's perspective. $100M isn't really "nothing" as others have suggested (believe me, Steve fights for every $100M going into the bank, and doubly hard when it leaves again!) However, it's a fairly cheap obstruction to throw down on Zune.

Will MS license Creative's patent too? Note that the press release says that if others license then Apple gets some reimbursement.

If MS refuses to license, will that $100M fund a legal battle against them next? It will go a ways towards that battle, anyway. And, Creative vs MS is a lot more likely for Creative to win than Creative vs (MS and Apple). This settlement adds credibility to Creative's claims.

IMHO, $100M spent here will help Apple in the iPod:Zune battle at least as much as $100M spent on marketing would have. Plus, it eliminates the overhang of the legal action and potential settlement/decision down the line.

Steve Jobs knew this was a BS patent and it shows in his comments. Absolutely Stupid. Hell, the LISA had a Hierarchal File System. I'm still angry that this patent was even granted in the first place.

Bottom line: Creative knew this was a BS patent, too, but they figured they had to try. However, when the patent was granted to them, they had a weapon in their war against the iPod. Rather than concentrate on making a better product, they used this weapon as a way to get some quick cash. They bet on Apple settling and not going to court.

In the meantime, MS comes in and announces Zune, which threatens other WMA compatible players like Creative's offerings. Creative now thinks they need a backup plan and decides that during the negotiations with Apple, they can get them to give them a license to produce iPod-approved products. Now they have a fallback incase their own offerings fizzle out.

The question is: Will they go after Microsoft, too? It would be hypocritical not to, after all.

An iPod update is way overdue. It's been almost a year since the last major iPod update.

I think it's reasonable to say that an iPod update is due. It's hard to argue that an iPod update is "way overdue." Apple times this stuff deliberately, and even if we'd all like flashy new kit every three months, I think they've got the update cycle just about perfect.

I really doubt that Apple will put a TV tuner in this thing (if it's real). Think about it -

Point 1 - If Apple puts a tuner in then they have to deal with the myriad of different types of TV.

Point 2 - THEY SELL TV SHOWS!

Does Steve want you to Tivo the new episode of "The Office" on your "MediaMac/Airport Express Video/Super iPod" or does he want you to come to the iTunes store and download it for $2? Apple, despite most of our (including my own) beliefs is a business and they have to think of the $$$ first.

Why give something away when you can make money off it? That's still my theory as to why the mini didn't have a tuner from the start.

They might want to make money off of the millions of people who watch TV outside of the US (where they don't sell their TV shows). They also don't have to provide for every TV possibility, just as EyeTV doesn't cover all options (and I agree with others that EyeTV is a good solution, but why not have a true Apple alternative?).

When will the iPhone rumors end? Can't you people see it won't happen?

Then I'll be the first to laugh in your face as I gloat everywhere you post.

(iono how serious you were) Unlike the stupid G5 PB rumors, the fact that cellphone chips, etc. can fit into something as thin as a RAZR and couple that with how thin a nano is, it's going to happen sooner than you'd think.

i thought this from my first post, but his join date is 08, and he's a regular. that is what has me thinking that what he is saying is really how he thinks/acts.

I don't doubt that he goes around cutting people off at dangerous speeds. That screams of trying to make himself feel like less of a loser.

It's all the other crap that I think is BS...the money, connected family members, SAT score, all of the volunteering, Harvard. Complete lies. The kid is sitting in his basement listening to death metal (no offense to those who like that kind of music) as we speak and cursing all of the girls in his class because nobody would be caught dead at Prom with him.

Do no buckle to these power hungry tyrants Samsung. The stinger you fight, the more I will buy your products in the future.

LOL! Why do you have a problem with companies trying to protect their intellectual property?

At least Apple didn't wait years to file suit and if you remember, they did file many patents on the iPhone when it was introduced. They have every right to protect their IP.

But I know... this goes against your anti-Apple ranting.

Apple keeps burning bridges and eventually it's going to come back to bite them in the ass. Samsung is holding all the cards here. Apple needs Samsung but Samsung doesn't need Apple. I wouldn't be surprised if Sammy has some unexpected production issues with ipad parts here shortly.

I thought TV shows in iTunes won't be a hit, why would any one need to pay $1.99 for the stuff, that is already available in cable, sat, Tivo, DVD's, Block buster, feely on the air in SDTV/HDTV, etc.. and all viewable on big screen TV.

I never bought any TV shows on iTunes, as I use DVR. I see myself buying online movie downloads, mainly for convenience and the fact that it is available on the same day as DVD.:) . Even though blockbuster is less than 5 min away, it will be at least 45 min trip. Of course I will still be renting/buying DVD's.

One more thing many forget about iTV ( Apple soon come with a real name), is that , it is not just for movies, I would happily pay third of its price just to have music and photos on my receiver and TV with the front row screen/remote.

    http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/20/researchers-disclose-iphone-and-ipad-location-tracking-privacy-issues/)

A pair of security researchers today announced (http://radar.oreilly.com/2011/04/apple-location-tracking.html) that they are sounding the privacy warning bell about the capability of iOS 4 to track the location of an iPhone or iPad on an ongoing basis, storing the data to a hidden file known as "consolidated.db" in the form of latitude and longitude and a timestamp for each point. All iPhones appear to log your location to a file called "consolidated.db." This contains latitude-longitude coordinates along with a timestamp. The coordinates aren't always exact, but they are pretty detailed. There can be tens of thousands of data points in this file, and it appears the collection started with iOS 4, so there's typically around a year's worth of information at this point. Our best guess is that the location is determined by cell-tower triangulation, and the timing of the recording is erratic, with a widely varying frequency of updates that may be triggered by traveling between cells or activity on the phone itself. While the consolidated.db file has been known for some time and has played a key role in forensic investigations of iOS devices by law enforcement agencies, the researchers note the data is available on the devices themselves and in backups in unencrypted and unprotected form, leading to significant privacy concerns. Once gathered, the data is saved in backups, restored to devices if necessary, and even migrated across devices, offering a lengthy history of a user's movement.

I have. And it said that it was BEFORE the mall opened. So if it was night security.. it's different.

I hope for Apple that they're going to sell it unlocked. I would probably buy one (if it turns out to be any good) but locked phones are illegal here.

i don't understand, is like end up we have to use more data and pay more, and not convenience for iPod touch user who only got wifi, what so good about this?:confused::confused::confused:

I hope it isn't O2, that would be a shame. To be honest, any network lockins would be bad.
My vote would be Orange if I had the choice.

Not sure if you've had a bad experience on O2, but Orange customer service is by far the worst in the UK out of the four main providers. Their business customer service is diabolical at best.
